Traveling with an Infant

Traveling with an Infant

Infant passengers are passengers who are more than 14 days old but less than 2 years old at the time of their flight.
Pregnant women between 32 (inclusive) and 35 weeks of pregnancy with a definite expected date of delivery that is more than 4 weeks after the date of travel, and that will not have a multiple birth or expected childbirth complications as is known, must present their doctor’s note, medical certificates or a licensed physician's letter while purchasing tickets and boarding if they want to travel by air. The medical certificate must be issued no more than 7 days before flight departure (not including the day of departure).
1. Transport Requirements
Infant passengers must be accompanied by an adult throughout their flight. For safety reasons, Air China cannot provide transportation services for infants less than 14 days old or premature infants (newborn babies born earlier than 37 weeks into a pregnancy) who are less than 90 days old. We recommend that you opt for an alternative method of transport in such cases. Each adult may fly as the accompanying passenger for two infants (the first infant is eligible for an infant fare, a Child Ticket occupying a separate seat must be purchased for the second infant), one infant and two minors under the age of 5, or one sick infant.
Please note: A medical certificate (a true and valid medical certificate from a medical institution at or above county level that does not have to state “fit for travel”) is required for sick infants.
2. Applicable Fares
For carriage on domestic flights, an Infant Ticket may be purchased for infants who are under 2 years old on the day of their flight, charged at 10% of the normal adult fare. For carriage on international and regional flights, fares are set in accordance with the applicable terms of use. Infant Tickets do not include a separate seat. Please purchase a Child Ticket if a separate seat is required for an infant. A child over the age of 2 on the day of the flight must occupy a separate seat when flying with Air China for which a Child Ticket must be purchased.
3. Passenger Quotas
In order to ensure flight safety, the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) has safety regulations in force governing passenger quotas for each type of aircraft. Infant passenger quotas vary depending on the aircraft type and the flight route taken.
In order to ensure a smooth trip for both you and your children, please let your ticket agent know that you intend to travel with an infant when you make your booking. Once we have confirmed that there is sufficient infant capacity on your flight, we will then issue tickets for both you and your infant at the same time. If you just purchase an Adult Ticket and arrive at the airport with an accompanied infant, there may not be sufficient infant capacity on your flight and your itinerary may need to be changed.
4. Free Baggage Allowances
On domestic flights, infant passengers are eligible for a free baggage allowance of 10 kg. The dimensions of each piece of baggage must not exceed 100 cm in length, 60 cm in width and 40 cm in height.
On international and regional flights, infant passengers may carry one piece of free checked baggage provided that it does not weigh more than 23 kg and its overall dimensions do not exceed 158 cm.
A stroller or bassinet may also be checked in free of charge provided that its overall dimensions do not exceed those allowed for ordinary checked luggage.
5. Infant Bassinets
We are able to provide a free Infant Bassinet Service for Economy Class, Premium Economy Class, and Business Class on international routes on selected aircraft types. Our infant bassinets are suitable for infant passengers who weigh less than 22 lb./10 kg and are under 75 cm in length. If you need to book this service, please submit a request to one of our direct ticket sales departments within the deadline as we can only provide this service once we have made the necessary arrangements.

(2) Non-Sao Paulo Routes
Please submit a request at least 48 hours (inclusive) before the scheduled flight departure and no earlier than 14 days before the scheduled flight departure (not counting the date of departure).
You can also book an infant bassinet online through our website.
Accompanied Minors

Accompanied Minors

1. Transport Requirements
Minors over the age of 2 but under the age of 12 on the day of their flight must be accompanied by an adult. The ticket fare class for both the minor and accompanying adult must be the same. Air China defines an adult as an individual aged 18 or over with full capacity for civil conduct. A request for the Unaccompanied Minor Service must be made if a minor independently purchases a passenger ticket for a particular fare class.
2. Applicable Fares
Child Ticket fares for minors traveling on domestic routes in China are priced at 50% of the standard adult ticket fare for the same flight or other ticket fares with different discount rates. Fares for international and regional tickets are set in accordance with the applicable terms of use.
3. Passenger Quotas
Each adult may serve as the accompanying passenger for no more than: Three minors under the age of 5, one infant and two minors under the age of 5, or one disabled minor.
4. Free Baggage Allowances
Minors traveling on Child Tickets purchased at the corresponding fare are entitled to the free baggage allowance as specified by the ticket fare class.
5. Seating Arrangements
Since the carrier is held liable for unaccompanied minors and must provide safe and thorough special services and care throughout the entire journey, limitations are imposed on the number of unaccompanied minors that can be carried on each flight. The maximum number of unaccompanied minors aged 5 years and above but under 12 years old is 15, with those aged 5 to 8 years being no more than 5. There is no limit on the number of unaccompanied minors aged 12 years and above. (Note: "aged X " refers to the calculation based on the Gregorian calendar year, month, and day, starting from the date of birth of the year.).

Unaccompanied Minors

1. Transport Requirements
Minors over the age of 5 but under the age of 12 on the day of their flight who are traveling alone are eligible for the Air China Unaccompanied Minor Service. Air China only accepts unaccompanied minors for whom all Unaccompanied Minor Service procedures have been completed.
For health and safety reasons, Air China is unable to accept Unaccompanied Minor Service requests for minors who are under the age of 5 on the day of their flight, or deaf/blind minors who are under the age of 16 on the day of their flight.
Unaccompanied minors over the age of 12 and under the age of 18 with no health conditions, and deaf/blind passengers over the age of 16 but under the age of 18 who are traveling alone may submit an Unaccompanied Minor Service request themselves.
The Air China Unaccompanied Minor Service is offered on flights operated by Air China with a flight number attached to Air China. This includes direct flights (domestic, international, regional) and transfer flights (transiting via Beijing, Chengdu or Shanghai Pudong). Sorry, Air China does not currently offer the Unaccompanied Minor Service on interline flights operated jointly by Air China and other airlines.
2. Service Details
Following a successful Unaccompanied Minor Service request, Air China will provide the unaccompanied minor with a wallet that can be used to store all travel documents, boarding passes, etc. Minors must travel with the valid travel document used to purchase their ticket and their Unaccompanied Minor Service Application Form. For convenience, these items can be stored in the wallet provided.
The dedicated Air China ground service team is here to assist unaccompanied minors at each stage of the boarding process, including during check-in, passing through customs and airport security checks and when checking in baggage. The ground service team will accompany unaccompanied minors while they wait for their flight and will ensure that all relevant documentation and vouchers are safely retained. Following boarding, the ground service team will hand over relevant documentation and care of the unaccompanied minor to the cabin crew. Cabin crew personnel are there to look after unaccompanied minors during the flight and ensure that they have a pleasant journey. If the scheduled flight is delayed, Air China will inform the parents and ensure that a member of staff is available to accompany the child during the delay. If the scheduled flight is canceled, Air China will contact parents in a timely manner to let them know they need to collect their child from the airport. Upon arrival at the destination, the Air China ground service team will collect the unaccompanied minor. The ground service team will then quickly and safely arrange pick-up for the minor after verifying the pick-up person’s details.
3. Applicable Fares
Charges for unaccompanied minors consist of the ticket fare and a service fee. For minors over the age of 5 and under the age of 12, Child Ticket fares on domestic routes in China are priced at 50% of the standard ticket fare for the same flight; different discount rates are available for other ticket fares. Fares for international and regional tickets are set in accordance with the applicable terms of use. Tickets for passengers aged 12 or older are priced at the applicable adult fare. Charges for the Unaccompanied Minor Service vary depending on the flight route. Please call 95583 for further details.

Air China allows a maximum of five unaccompanied minors over the age of 5 and under the age of 8 per flight.
Pregnant Passengers
Due to changes in cabin environment and air turbulence which may cause adverse effects on pregnant women, we strongly recommend pregnant women to consult a doctor before travel to confirm whether it is appropriate to travel by air.
For the sake of your travel safety, if you are less than 36 weeks pregnant, you need to show us the pregnancy test report issued within 30 days before the flight (excluding the day of departure) or the true and effective diagnosis certificate with the doctor's signature/seal indicating the number of weeks of pregnancy. If you cannot provide the pregnancy test report or diagnosis certificate that meets this requirement, you need to inform us of the number of weeks of your pregnancy by signing our Risk Notification before travel; otherwise we will not be able to provide air transportation services.
You need to check in for your flight at one of our physical check-in counters. Please fasten your seat belt at the root of your thigh on board.
For safety reasons, we do not provide air transportation services for pregnant and puerperal women who meet one of the following conditions. We suggest you choose other modes of travel:
(1) Pregnant women who have been pregnant for 36 weeks or more.
(2) Pregnant women whose expected delivery period is within 4 weeks (included).
(3) Pregnant women whose expected date of delivery is approaching but exact date of birth cannot be determined, and who are known to have multiple births or are expected to have delivery complications.
(4) Women who gave birth less than 7 days ago
(5) Pregnant women with physical signs of abortion
If you have obvious symptoms of discomfort before travel, or if we reasonably judge that the travel might cause danger to your personal safety, we still have the right to refuse to carry you.
